ASPE 500 – 2011 in Review

In January 2011, the ASPE employees wanted to kick off the new year with a resolution for the whole company. What we decided upon was a fitness and wellness program known as the ASPE 500. Our mission was an easy one, and all employees had a simple task: walk, run, sprint or crawl and record your miles! We decided it was a stimulating, healthy way of starting the new year right, and it had additional incentives.

Employees could have a 30-extra-minute-long lunch break if they spent that time walking or running. For every 500 miles we ran collectively, ASPE would reward all of us with a company event–on the house! Our 2011 events included bowling, a trip to the driving range, ice skating, and an outing at one of the Durham Bulls’ baseball games. And, for every mile walked, 50¢ was donated to an organization of our choice. For 2011, ASPE decided to give to Western Wake Crisis Ministry, a charity that sends helping hands and volunteers from local churches, towns, businesses, civic groups, and individuals to the Apex and Holly Springs, NC community.

ASPE employees ran, walked, and jogged a total of 4,811 miles. That’s almost the same distance as walking to the coast of California from the coast of North Carolina and back! After all those miles, we were able to donate $2,405.50 to Western Wake Crisis Ministry. We set the bar pretty high for our 2012 goal: DOUBLE the miles we completed in 2011. That’s a grand total of 9,622 miles! With a company full of hard-working and driven employees, I’m sure the goal will be met easily.

Everyone here at ASPE is encouraged to partake in this event. No matter how little or how far the distance is, all the miles add up to plenty of great causes: personal fitness and wellness, team-building for ASPE employees during group events, and helping out the members of our community here in Cary, NC.
