One of the objectives here at ASPE is to model our office around building a lasting, high-quality, fun company. The environment of your workplace and the culture you create makes a big difference in the quality of your product. When morale is high, people are more likely to take pride in their company and in their work.
One of the ways we promote team building and encourage our employees to let loose and have fun together is through company outings. We try to plan at least one company outing a month. They are completely voluntary, but help us nurture a feeling of family, both in and out of the office.
For our March outing we attended a Carolina Hurricanes game. Although conditions weren’t ideal for tailgating, we weathered the storm and did it anyway. Besides, what makes you feel more like a family than huddling up together under the tailgate of a van and SUV to stay dry and warm? The highlight of the evening was when training advisor, Tom McGraw, and marketing specialist, Katie Cothran, were chosen for a halftime game of family feud. Watch as Tom and Katie blow away the competition winning a lavish dinner for two at only the finest all-you-can-eat buffet: Golden Corral.
In the end, our beloved Hurricanes lost in overtime to the Atlanta Thrashers, but even that did not put a damper on our evening.
Unfortunately, an office full of competing schedules would not permit an April outing, but we more than made up for it in May. Compliments of a wonderful Living Social coupon, the ASPE family spent an evening with the Durham Bulls baseball team. An ugly afternoon storm made it look like the night might be cancelled, but the weather cleared up just in time for pizza and margaritas on the patio of the Mellow Mushroom. The Bulls didn’t fare well against the Indians, but we had fun just the same. Deserving or not, our own President, David Mantica (@davidmantica), gave all the Bulls fans a victory dance to remember. If you haven’t seen David’s moves, flip over to the post Shake, Rattle and Roll… and take some pointers!
Does your company promote team building and encourage you to have fun? If they don’t, they’re missing out on a huge opportunity to grow as a family and to grow as an organization.
Share your company’s stories with us and let us know what we should do for the months of June and July!
