I have 1 hour a day to devote to social media? How do I maximize my return on time?
Go back to top

Tue, May 12, 2015

Seminar Description:

We've all heard the title "Social Media Strategist." Most of the time we hear it in the context of a large company. One with rather deep pockets allowing them to hire a full time social media person. However, if you work for an SMB (small to medium sized business), you probably don't have that luxury and are more acquainted with the title "Digital Marketing Specialist" whose responsibilities include not only social media, but email marketing, search engine optimization, pay-per-click advertising, content marketing, graphic design…should I keep going?

The modern marketer's universe keeps getting larger and larger and the only way to keep up is to prioritize. Obviously, we're going to focus on the activities that generate the most return. Although social media does and will generate ROI, it's not the easiest to prove, and therefore, tends to get the least amount of attention.

So how much time are you really willing to give to social media? If you only have one hour a day to spend on social media, how can you get the most return? In this one-hour web seminar, we'll discuss:

  • Setting realistic goals
  • Choosing which social networks will work best for you
  • Managing your time efficiently
  • Tools to Manage Social Media
  • Measuring Social Media ROI

Workplace Culture: Can You Really Change It?
Go back to top

Tue, December 2, 2014

Seminar Description:

We hear more about the importance of culture every day. As technology advances, software and connectivity grow, and open-source tools become de rigeur, it's becoming easier to find tools that can fill tricky-yet-crucial roles in our processes. We're tapping new gold mines of scalability, automation, and compute.

But with every step forward in the world of tools – and processes – and management – there's something that continues to stay exactly the same: the human nature of the tool users. The team of people on the mission, and the workplace environment they create, are foundational to everything else that's used to do our work. Culture is the primary factor.

With a strong, positive, motivated culture, more work is done. More quality is delivered. And more money can be made. But can it be improved? Can it be influenced? Can it be changed? That's the million-dollar question we'll spend the hour on during this web seminar.

Tue, November 4, 2014

Seminar Description:

Your last email campaign rocked…or did it? How do you know?

It doesn't matter how well designed or optimized your emails are if you don't know how to measure the results. Before you do that, you have to ask yourself, "What is the goal of my email marketing?" Are you trying to grow your subscriber base, generate more leads or convert existing leads? Once you decide the goal of your email marketing you can begin to figure out which email marketing metrics you'll need to track in order to determine the success or failure of your campaigns.

These are the metrics that will prevent you from sending emails that will trigger spam filters or irritate your subscribers. They're the metrics that will tell you what works and what doesn't; what people like and what they don't. They're the metrics that will tell you how to nurture prospects, and most importantly, drive revenue.

In this free, one-hour web seminar we'll cover:

  • What these metrics mean
  • How marketing metrics can help improve your campaign efforts

How to do A/B Testing with Google Analytics Experiments
Go back to top

Wed, September 24, 2014

Seminar Description:

What's the easiest way to become a more successful in-house marketer? The answer is simple: A/B testing. A/B testing compares two things to see which one performs better. No more making changes and then holding your breath hoping for the best. A/B testing takes the guess work out of it all. And if you're not testing, you're losing money.

A lot of conversion optimization companies out there are going to try to talk you into buying some fancy A/B testing software or hire their agency to run A/B testing for you. Yet for a lot of us in small organizations, the outrageous price for these services and software just isn't doable. But fear not, there is a solution. And wait for it…IT'S FREE!

Setting up A/B split tests on landing pages is actually quite simple, and free, when using Google Analytics. In this one-hour web seminar we'll discuss:

  • What A/B testing actually is
  • The benefits of A/B testing
  • Things to test
  • Testing best practices

We'll end the seminar with a live demo showing you exactly how to set up your first A/B test with Google Analytics.

Business Book Report- The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable
Go back to top

Tue, September 16, 2014

Seminar Description:

Each month we pick a valuable, substantive business book we think will benefit the professionals we serve. Some are new; some are classics. Either way, we do the reading, and then use one of our free web seminars to deliver a one-hour "book report." This month's book pick is The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable by Nassim Nicholas Taleb.

Taleb has written a book that explains how the business world works now more than ever. It's a world of fast-paced, unpredictable events that are hard to keep up with and even harder to predict. If you are a professional who struggles to cope with change or find ways to deliver value quickly enough to respond to the market, this is a must-read.

Taleb put his finger on the dynamics of a world where luck, evolution, unpredictability, and response time all converge to make it seemingly impossible to navigate a market landscape that just moves too fast. However, he also explains how navigation is possible for those who understand the underlying drivers, and how it's actually possible to stay nimble and alert, ready to respond when events occur that are impossible to predict – events Taleb calls "Black Swans."

  • What is the most important element of content that draws people in?

This web seminar will get your creative juices flowing and give you that head start you need when marketing your product in a boring industry (or even an exciting industry!). How Content Length Affects Rankings and Conversions
Go back to top

Thu, September 4, 2014

Seminar Description:

We all want to know the secret sauce to how long our blog posts should be. Some say proclaimed experts have said with 500 words a blog post should be able to rank, but that is no longer the case. Many people who watch the Google algorithms closely say that it takes much more than 500 words, and it has to be an in-depth article in order to rank well in Google.

In this web seminar we will cover some of the misconceptions around content marketing and how content length can ultimately affect where you appear in the search engine rankings, and what effect that has on your site goals. Some of the topics in this web seminar include:

  • Is content really queen or is it context?
  • Do content-rich sites get more links automatically?
  • Does social sharing really influence search engine rankings?

Again, there are many misconceptions about these topics and we are here to clear the air with specific case studies and results. After this web seminar you will know where to look for content for your industry as well as begin to formulate a content marketing plan that will succeed in today's fierce and overly saturated online marketing world.

Introduction to MapReduce

Tue, May 27, 2014

Seminar Description:

MapReduce is a programming framework introduced by Google in the early 2000's. It is targeted at solving problems that have to work on huge datasets. Rather than devising an algorithm that works on the entire dataset, the map reduce framework works on several chunks of the same dataset in parallel during the map phase and combines the results together during the reduce phase. MapReduce can take advantage of locality of data, processing data on or near the storage assets to decrease transmission of data. In this 75-minute session, the author will lead the participants through the following:

  1. Introduction to the MapReduce paradigm in Hadoop
  2. Code-walkthrough in Java
  3. How does MapReduce work in Hadoop? – This part will provide an explanation for the internal workings (Shuffle-Sort) of MapReduce, job scheduling and failure handling in classical MapReduce.

The Importance of Buyer Behavior for Agile Marketing Metrics
Go back to top

Fri, May 23, 2014

Seminar Description:

One of the greatest things about digital marketing is the ready availability of metrics. Compared to decades past, we can know so much more about how many people respond to our marketing activities and how, when, and where they respond. And it's hard to find a CMO who hasn't read a slew of articles about Big Data in the past year, wondering how it should relate to her marketing team's efforts.

Agile Marketing practitioners understand that metrics are key for all marketing activities - "data over opinions" is part of the Agile Marketing Manifesto. And we all know it's hard to improve what you can't measure. Unfortunately, many marketers still fail to do the important work of connecting the dots between metrics associated with individual tactics and metrics that the business readily understands and values such as revenue. However, oftentimes marketers can't connect those dots because they don't know how their customers connect the dots between their sales and marketing tactics to begin with.

In this webinar, we'll discuss some common marketing metrics and how they can be combined with a marketing funnel, or better yet a buyer's journey, to connect the dots to the bottom line.

Agile Marketing And Your Big-Bang Campaigns
Go back to top

Wed, April 30, 2014

Seminar Description:

The Agile Marketing movement is a lot more than just using an "Agile" process to manage your marketing work. It's also about a fundamental shift in how you think and execute as a modern marketer.

When it comes to campaigns, let's focus on two values from the Agile Marketing Manifesto:

  • Adaptive and iterative campaigns over Big-Bang campaigns
  • Many small experiments over a few large bets

In many marketing organizations, a lot of campaigns still fall into the "Big-Bang" category. So when confronted with the prospect of adopting Agile Marketing, some questions naturally arise – Do we have to abandon them? Or do we just chop them up into a bunch of little campaigns?

In this webinar, we'll discuss how Agile Marketing can help you both replace Big Bang campaigns and enhance them by using smaller "experiments" to make them more effective. We will look at examples ranging from digital marketing to traditional advertising and discuss simple ways Agile can be infused into them.

7 Management Skills to Develop In Your Organization in 2014
Go back to top

Tue, April 8, 2014

Seminar Description:

Managing, in the traditional sense, is a thing of the past. Monitoring processes, scheduling work and directing activities are all useless and mind-numbing for both the manager and the managed. What is expected of leaders in today's organizations has evolved. Leaders must now drive team empowerment, coach, mentor and drive autonomy. Management and bureaucracy slow things down. Top talent today will no longer deal with dictatorial direction from on high.

This evolution in leadership is a direct result of our shift to a knowledge worker economy. We no longer manufacture, but instead create and automate. To succeed, organizations must develop "T-shaped employees," who possess deep technical expertise, but also a wide breadth of professional skills. However, most middle-managers or upcoming managers have only stove-piped technical knowledge, so being thrown into leading self-organized, self-directed teams is a recipe for disaster.

In this one hour session, we will discuss 7 skills that you need to develop in your organization in 2014:

  • Data Analysis
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Collaboration and Communication
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Coaching/Mentoring
  • Facilitation and Negotiation
  • Change Management

Panelists will discuss why and how to develop these skills within in your organization.

How Big Data is Changing the Marketing Mindset
Go back to top

Wed, March 26, 2014

Seminar Description:

At its core, big data centers on a few basic principles. The first and possibly the most important is, changing the mindset in its entirety of how we "do" marketing. Ultimately, this helps us propel value and improve the customer experience by relying on the facts that the data presents, versus a subjective or knee-jerk reaction. It also allows us to give the customer exactly what they are looking for, in the precise moment they are looking for it.

A somewhat simplistic approach is often clouded by too much data to consume, inconclusive decisions on core business metrics and just not knowing where to start. In this web seminar you will learn:

  • What is big data and how to use it in your marketing department
  • Where to start with big data and what it will mean to you
  • Understanding the goals of big data and data driven marketing

If you have no understanding about big data or just don't know where to start, this web seminar is for you. Get the facts about big data and learn the secrets to successfully using big data in your marketing endeavors.

Events as Part of Your Content Marketing Strategy
Go back to top

Tue, October 8, 2013

Seminar Description:

According to FierceCMO more than 40% of small businesses use events as a marketing tool, with 71 percent saying that holding events are integral to their organizational success.

For B2B marketers, workshops, seminars and lectures are the most popular event tool (63%). Also popular are education or training events (52%) conferences (44%) and networking events (38%). There are multiple reasons for doing events, including education and training, generating sales/revenue and attracting new customers. The reality though is events are hard; they take a lot of work, are difficult to track and in most cases require subject matter expertise and/or sales to be successful.

Marketers have to be willing to "partner" with other parts of the organization to succeed in events marketing and must be willing to deal with imprecise return metrics. All in all there are pockets of "easy" opportunity in the events marketing area and this seminar will point you in the right direction. We will take a look at how to successfully incorporate an event strategy into your content marketing mix as well as discuss best practices around content development for events and promotional marketing.

Being Found Online: Everything You Know About SEO is Wrong
Go back to top

Wed, August 7, 2013

Seminar Description:

No segment of online marketing has changed in the last 12 months as much as SEO. Google updates its core ranking algorithm more than 500 times per year, which already seems impossible to keep up. Then Google Decided to "nudge" you to start using Google Plus. You didn't need to be on another social network, so you decided to skip it. You decided to believe it was a ghost town and the real place to make money was on Facebook. In the meantime, Google continues to be the first stop for almost all people looking to buy something. If you're still focused on ezine links, buying so-so content from text brokers and automating engagement, you will soon be on the trash heap of history. There is only one path left open to you if you want to succeed online. That path is the only one Google still recognizes as valid.

Google Plus for Business
Go back to top

Wed, July 31, 2013

Seminar Description:

It's no secret that Google Plus is something of an enigma for businesses. Its development and tools for business marketing seem to lag behind other social networks, and it's tough to justfiy spending time on yet another social media project. On the other hand, several independent studies show it to be the fastest growing social network ever, and some of its free tools (such as Hangouts and Communities) have been shown to have significant impact for businesses seeking out new prospects. And with everey passing month Google Plus is more intimately tied into the world's largest online marketing opportunity: Google.

In this seminar you will learn why Google Plus is not only a market force not to be ignored, but why early adopters will gain an advantage their competition will find hard to match in the coming years. Seminar instructor Mark Traphagen has been intensely studying what Google is up to with Google Plus since joining it on its third day of existence. He has uncovered hidden but powerful secrets of influence-building and brand-expansion that occur when Google Plus is used properly.

You will discover why it is a mistake to think of Google Plus as "just another Facebook or Twitter," why Google Plus is actually a portal into reaching prospects you would never find elsewhere, and in particular, the profound effect Google Plus can have on Google search in areas where people are searching for what your business offers. Many of the strategies you'll hear in this seminar have been exclusively developed and proven by instructor Mark Traphagen; you'll hear them nowhere else!

How to Find Time for Social Media
Go back to top

Wed, June 26, 2013

Seminar Description:

It's a common complaint: there is simply too much to do on social media. From content development to effective analytics, social media marketing can quickly feel as if it's getting out of hand. Nevertheless, great social media marketing can be boiled down into four key steps: content creation, promotion, relationship-building, and analysis.

This web seminar will cover each area and provide participants with tips on how to save time throughout each process.

Questions this webinar will answer:

  • I have 15 minutes a day I can spend on social media. How do I best use that time?
  • How often should I run analytics on my social media?
  • How do I juggle multiple platforms?
  • Are there any apps or programs that can help me manage my social media accounts?
  • I heard I'm supposed to tweet two to four times a day and post to Facebook several times a week. Where do I come up with all that content?

Social media management, when done well, can be challenging. But it doesn't have to be incredibly time-consuming. With the multitude of apps and programs on the Internet today, finding time for social media management is easier than ever.

Agile Marketing Primer
Go back to top

Thu, May 23, 2013

Seminar Description:

Rapid, scalable, flexible, collaborative: words that all marketers strive for to achieve real-world success in their creative process. And beyond the marketing world, business leaders everywhere are realizing that the new economic paradigm rewards speed, flexibility, and response to change.

If you've read The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb, you know how FAST economic disruptions now move through the world economy. Some disruptions are flashes in the pan. Others bring about marketplace revolutions that none of us have the tools to entirely predict, or even catch early indicators regarding the direction they will take.

So in the face of this reality, marketers need to look at work values, principles, and processes that enable the nimbleness required to "catch a black swan". In search of practices which enable this success, creative leaders in marketing fields are looking to their brethren in another profession which is high-stakes and project-based: software development. They are finding that the foundational values (and the practices associated with them) of highly successful software development philosophies such as Agile can also be leveraged to bring speed, quality, and flexibility to processes which yield fantastic creative.

This is Agile Creativity: the fusing of the software world's Agile values with the creative initiatives of marketing. In this web seminar, we will discuss in detail the core values of Agile work, then look at the practices and principles being implementing to fuse marketing needs with those values. The outcome is a powerful structure for quickly bringing ideas to life, rapidly developing iterations that increase quality, and incorporating feedback and input earlier in the creative process.

Core Professional Skills: a 60-Minute Primer
Go back to top

Tue, May 14, 2013

Seminar Description:

In the business world, we hear a lot about technology and disruption, and their many challenges. But we're also starting to hear more about pitfalls related to the human side of business…gaps in the "soft skills" that are equally critical to successful people and companies. Although many of these skills gaps are nothing new, they are more relevant than ever, and in some cases have been made worse by disruption. Without core professional skills like communication, initiative, leadership, and etiquette, no team can be truly great and no professional can be truly successful. You probably deal with the consequences of "soft skill" deficits every day: communication breakdown, misunderstanding, conflict, and damaged morale – just to name a few.

These are productivity killers, and the root causes are broad. There are rising cross-generational differences, a growing lack of interpersonal skills, differences in personality and culture, and erosion in consensus about what constitutes professional behavior. The good news is that there are teachable skills to address these challenges, and accessible techniques to overcome them. In this free one-hour presentation, we'll take a look at some of the most common "people problems" in the mainstream business world, and how we can start dealing with them. Key topics include:

  • How to communicate effectively
  • Overcoming generational and cultural barriers
  • Leveraging emotional intelligence in the business environment
  • Encouraging self-awareness while building a team mentality
  • Keeping action and culture tied to productivity

Although these needs aren't new in the business world, even seasoned veterans are beginning to see the need for a "reloaded" approach to developing these skills. This will be a high-level conversation about how to navigate these soft skills as we face continuing changes in business landscapes and a rising new generation of professionals.

The attention span on the web is approaching zero. You have just a few seconds to capture their attention away from email, instant message, social media and all the other distractions of the web. Additionally, good content is useless if nobody sees it. Getting people to find your content is what makes good content great content!

This web seminar will help show you how to make sure the content you're creating gets noticed on the web.

The Fundamentals of Sales
Go back to top

Tue, June 19, 2012

Seminar Description:

"Training is never better or worse than the amount of time and effort you put into what you have learned." – ASPE Vice President of Sales Clay Pernell

If you ask your sales people one simple question, "Who taught you how to sell?" you'll discover a simple truth. Most sales representatives haven't had formal sales training. Yet sales training will boost all measurements of success: achieve or surpass quotas, close bigger deals, shorten the sales cycle, increase revenue and make more money.

Selling is a wonderful profession when approached ethically, constructively and helpfully. It can be frustrating and complicated, or it can be very simple. It is not an accident that the top producers in the world of selling are at the top. It is also true that there are no born sales champions. Yes, some people have more talent than others. But, success in selling comes down to some basic fundamentals. Fundamentals, if taken action on consistently, will lead to success.

In this one-hour web seminar, ASPE's own vice president of sales, Clay Pernell, will discuss the fundamentals of the selling process covered in our own internal sales training including:

  • Five Attributes of Highly Successful Sales Professionals
  • Opening Statements
  • Negotiating
  • Managing Price Expectations/Price Objections
  • Understanding Your Potential Buyers (and their roles)

Your Idea is Worthless…Unless you can Powerfully Present it!
Go back to top

Tue, June 5, 2012

Seminar Description:

A great idea is meaningless and useless unless it can be communicated properly whether written or orally. The problem with writing down great ideas is you have to trust someone will actually read what you wrote. In today's business environment, that is something I would not necessarily trust. The only true, quick way you can get your idea out is through presenting it.

What does that mean though? Is a presentation something speakers do at events? The reality is you present every time you have an oral communication with someone. A presentation can be one to one, one to two, or one to hundred. It can also be a group discussion with each person contributing to a team or on a panel. The dynamic to focus on, whether you are with one person or a group, is that you are presenting to them. This element creates a number of challenges but can also be used to your advantage.

When you write, you can hide behind your words. When you present you are your words. Your audience creates an instant image of you as you begin, and then that image ebbs and flows during your presentation. That image, when not managed correctly, can overshadow or even block the message you are trying to convey.

In this web seminar we will review very pragmatic skills, tools and techniques to properly prepare and execute a successful presentation. We will look at planning, preparation, delivery techniques and delivery challenges. This is very little on theory. The focus is on actions you can do before and during the presentation to increase the power of your message and the success of your idea.

Profiling 101: The Lost Art
Go back to top

Sun, February 12, 2012

Seminar Description:

Profiling is often seen as an ugly word, and an even uglier activity. While true in the vast majority of context, profiling in marketing is not only necessary…it's required.

Marketing profiling is a fundamental skill critical for marketing success. Customers will quickly come for you with their torches and pitchforks if you don't send them timely and relevant messages. But how are you supposed to know who to send what?

Whether electronic or print, television or radio, marketing messages must be based on the audience being engaged. Do you sell lipstick in the sports section of the paper? Do you sell Budweiser in Golf Digest? The perfect message/campaign is doomed to fail if it does not reach the right people.

That is why we will be discussing the lost art of marketing profiling. It is concerning that everywhere you turn these days, you are exposed to Internet marketing pundits putting less and less emphases on profiling. This web seminar will be a debate between the traditional profiling strategies of ASPE's President, David Mantica versus the "new school" digital profiling strategies of ASPE's VP of Marketing, JT Moore.

We will discuss:

  • Behavioral-based marketing tactics
  • Interest-based marketing tactics
  • Profiling for traditional marketing channels
  • Profiling for electronic marketing channels

And much more…

Agile Creativity: A Look at how Google is Supporting the Adoption of Agile Methods into Marketing and Agency-level Creative
Go back to top

Tue, January 31, 2012

Agile Concepts for Management and Leadership Success
Go back to top

Sun, January 22, 2012

Seminar Description:

Agile principles are dominating the discussion in software development. As it goes mainstream, software practitioners in almost every vertical are utilizing what Agile offers. It is only a matter of time before other professional disciplines begin to incorporate Agile for professional and organizational success.

Radical Management is one such incorporation. Started by Steve Denning and chronicled in his book The Leader's Guide to Radical Management, it uses the foundational values of Agile and develops specific principles and practices for managers and leaders.

In this web seminar, you will initially look at the foundational values of Agile and discuss how and why they can be interpreted and utilized for managers and leaders inside and outside software development. Then dive into the specifics of Radical Management, the fundamental rationale for it, the defining principles and how those principles are acted upon.

There is NO doubt Agile values can be used by managers and leaders. The challenge for them is the struggle to redefine themselves and their place in a business world that is rapidly going Agile. However, if they can cross this "chasm," the business opportunities on the other side in today's environment are significant.

Personal Brand Challenges – Loyalty and Legality
Go back to top

Tue, October 4, 2011

Seminar Description:

In our society, technology continues to rapidly outpace our culture's ability to keep pace. From the challenges of internet taxation to privacy concerns brought on by Facebook and Google, legal and ethical practices lag seriously behind the pace of the technology. The inherent necessary changes cause significant problems and challenges.

In this web seminar we will discuss the legal and professional challenges brought about by internet marketing's empowerment of personal brand development. It is astonishing how fast and effectively someone can gain near instant creditability when building and maintaining a personal brand. But with everything good comes a bad. The bad in this case revolves around employees. Contractors have no issues in this matter, however, with employees comes employment law and issues of work product ownership. Along with this come issues of loyalty and intent. Both these issues can put the employee in a precarious position.

We will cover the issue of loyalty and intent when building a personal brand. We will also discuss some basic legal precedents that are out there, and how employment law and work product ownership can potentially increase the risk involved in personal brand development. Finally we will look to the future and what may ultimately happen long term in this area.

In the end, both employees and employers need to understand that personal brand development is real. It is possible, but it involves risk to both parties.

Seminar Description:

Product Theory: Real-World Innovation and Creativity Enablement

Innovation and creativity are business bingo words for sure. Even though they conjure up visions of verbose, empty-suite executives clamoring on and on, they are still critical. At the end of the day, your business grows by entering new markets, adding new products and reacting to changes that impact your products or customers. This session pulls information from multiple sources including, The Difference by Scott Page, Wisdom of Crowds by Jim Surdoweiki, Innovation at the Verge by Joel Barker, Product Management Strategy by Rebecca Henderson, The Agile Manifesto and the Edison Product Factory to provide pragmatic models and interesting new ways to help you find new products or customers through innovation and creativity.

Social Media Marketing: The 3 Rs
Go back to top

Wed, March 23, 2011

Seminar Description:

Too many marketers jump into social media marketing without fully developing a strategy or plan. They create budgets, strategies, and plans for their other marketing channels, but neglect to do the same for social media. They fail to put solid numbers around it, so very few utilize social media effectively. Often times marketing managers or marketing executives don't see an immediate impact, and give up on social media as a marketing tool. To be successful you have to be able to judge your performance, show business impact and measure results.

Often times in business we hear, 'What's my Return on Investment' (ROI). One question you may want to also ask is, 'What's my Return On Conversation', since social media really is about engagement and the conversations you have. You may have even heard Return on Time (ROT)…perhaps from some very astute marketing folks here at ASPE-ROI. But with all of the acronyms bouncing around, how do you know what is right for you? Is one right and the rest wrong?

Jeremy Smith, ASPE-ROI Instructor and Social Media Authority, and JT Moore, Director of Marketing will discuss the philosophies behind each of The 3 R's in Social Media Marketing:

Return on Investment (ROI)

Return on Conversation (ROC)

Return on Time (ROT)

At a very high level, they will show tips and tricks to get you started monitoring your social media marketing under each of these philosophies. They will discuss when one 'R' is more appropriate than others, as well as their individual preferred philosophy.

You will leave the event with a strong understanding of The 3 R's of Social Media Marketing, and have best practices and tips to help you put a solid strategy around your social media marketing efforts.

Millennials Rising: Critical Success Factors for Leading and Empowering Generation Y
Go back to top

Wed, February 23, 2011

Seminar Description:

The newest generation to hit the workforce goes by many different names. The basic birth year bracket for this generation is 1982 – 1995 or 2000, depending on your source. The names include Generation Y, Millennial Generation, Generation Next, Net Generation, Echo Boomers and even the Peter Pan Generation.

Here is the kicker, this generation is HUGE and is needed to ensure continued economic growth. The Baby Boomer Generation is around 120M the X Generation is around 90M. We just don't have enough X Generation professionals to fill the leadership void being created by the Baby Boomer push to retirement. The Millenials will be quickly pushed into leadership positions over the next 10 years to fill this void.

This sounds much easier in writing than it is to actually do. This generation has a very specific demographic and motivation. In order to get the most out of your High Potential Millennials, you must have a detailed understanding of the characteristics of this generation and how best to support, motivate and lead this group to ensure they achieve their maximum potential.

In this 45 min web seminar, we will have two presenters. One is JT Moore, vice president of marketing at ASPE, Inc. JT is a Millennial in a leadership role. The other is David Mantica, president of ASPE Inc. with more than half of his team in the Millennial classification, David brings real-world experience on Millennial talent management.

JT and David will review and provide point / counter points on the following topics related to Millennial talent management:

  • Very detailed look at Millennial characteristics including pros, cons and dispelling certain stereotypes
  • Motivating Millennials in the work place, including issues on compensation, benefits, work/life balance
  • Critical success discussion around empowering Millennial success through task assignment and work empowerment
  • Finally a frank discussion of issues around discipline, corrective action, and feedback circles with Millennials

Whether you are a business analyst, project manager, IT manager or director, business manager or executive, you must understand how to properly drive the growth and development of your high-potential Millennials. Based on the significantly different characteristics of this generation, a detailed understanding is necessary for success. Or, as this generation is very willing to do, they will quickly leave and find something that does fit who they are.

Prototyping Techniques for Better Web Design
Go back to top

Thu, February 10, 2011

Seminar Description:

When designing a web presence, there's often a disastrous disconnect between the design of user experience, system functionality, and visual design. Sometimes design is by committee, done on the fly, or worse: given no truly structured process at all. By investing in a few common sense analysis measures at the beginning of your project, you can ensure that the rollout of your web presence will be as efficient and effective as possible.

In this free one-hour web presentation, business analysis expert Billie Johnson, CBAP, presents some common-sense methods to bring your team together for determining proper direction and function before moving to design and production. By determining function, then moving on to form, then implementing form efficiently by prototyping core features of your design, you can effectively address user and customer needs and combine them with elegant packaging. This focus on business needs, user experience and an organized approach to prototyping key foundations of your web presence with integrated visual design allows you to maximize your investment in web design. Billy will show you you how to leverage basic techniques proven in the world of business analysis, and apply them to your online design efforts when the time comes for you to roll out a shiny new website or user interface. ASPE's creative director Chris Knotts, PMP contributed to this program.

Building an Electronic Marketing Department
Go back to top

Thu, January 27, 2011

Seminar Description:

In 2007 ASPE made the decision to build an Electronic Marketing Department…and as they say the rest is history (Well at least history to us). We are now a Google Certified Partner successfully utilizing AdWords and Analytics. We operate three blogs, run multiple twitter accounts, and send over three million emails a year. This is all in addition to the +3 million direct mail pieces that we send each year.

It definitely didn't happen all at once, and we are still working out some of the kinks, but it was the right thing to do and one that has given new life to our multi-channel marketing strategy. In this 45 min web seminar JT and David will go through the initial process taken to start up the department, the metrics used to measure success and plans being built for the future, including the continued integration of all of our channels.

There is no perfect solution, and the path to success is unique to every business, but hopefully you will gain insight based on our experiences (both positive and negative) and learn from some of our best practices. After the formal presentation we will open the session up for questions, giving you the opportunity to get more information about how you can apply the material to your unique situation, as well as to ask any questions you may have.

If you have initiated or are planning to initiate an electronic marketing solution with the goals of building a department or integrating the capabilities into your existing marketing team, this 45-min session will give you practical and real-world ideas to test and potholes to steer clear of.
